The Testimony of Shlomo Nahum

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;

Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”

Isaiah 9:2

I was born in the biblical city of Lod near the west coast of Israel. My parents who had immigrated from Tunisia were struggling to raise a family of four children and the atmosphere at home was very harsh. To escape from this, I requested to go to a religious school at the age of eleven, and because I was a good scholar and succeeded in all the exams, I was entitled to go to an ultra-religious school called a Yeshiva in Hebrew. This required me to leave my home and live in the school. It was not long before I started to see the legalism of Judaism and that it was taught without love or compassion. I eventually grew to want nothing to do with the Religious Orthodox system and rebelled against it and even against God.

After finishing school, I became very successful in business and was very wealthy. I had a beautiful wife, and all that money could buy, but I was very miserable. I turned to gambling, drinking and drugs to find solace for my soul but I could not understand what was happening to me. I did not realise that all this sadness, emptiness and sickness came from living a life against God. I still believed I could do things on my own until a few years later, my business collapsed, and I was left in tremendous debt.

It was during this distressing time that my parents and I were invited to the home of my older brother, who was already a strong believer for a Sabbath meal with his family, I had heard of his new faith but until this time had not felt that it was for me. He again began to share his testimony with myself and our parents again. Although he was speaking to my parents, the words were meant for me and my heart was so touched that tears came to my eyes. I felt a deep peace and quietness in my soul that I had never experienced before.

I could see and hear my brother had a love and passion for the Word. Later on, he invited me to go with him to a Congregation that evangelised the Jewish People. Two weeks later I went with him, at first I was very uncomfortable, and as I walked into the room, there were about 20 believers raising their hands to the Lord in worship. I wanted to leave, but after a few minutes, I heard a song they were singing from Isaiah 61:1-3. As I looked at the overhead, suddenly the name of God, (Jehova) which was written there began to stand out, and something began to happen inside of me as I received a revelation of God’s name, I heard the voice of the Lord saying to me I am He. This touched my inner being in a very strong way. It was as if an earthquake was shaking my inner being. I found myself unable to resist the power of God touching me with this revelation. I fell on my knees and started to weep as I never wept before in my life. At this moment I was drawn to accept Yeshua in the year of 1995, as my Lord and Savior without any reservations or doubts. I was given a Bible, and I began to read it as an extreme hunger and thirst for the Word of God began to consume me.

A few days later, as I was driving to my work, I received an even greater revelation of the Name Jehova as I saw a vision of his Name coming from heavens right through the windshield of my car and into my heart. I began to weep as the Glory of God, like a cloud, started to surround me and stayed with me for many days.

I continued to get deeper and deeper into the Word of God as my hunger increased. I attended meetings as much as 4 times a week and was baptised in the Mediterranean Sea. I was excited to be able to lead both my parents and my sister to the Lord shortly after my salvation. I went to different teaching sessions about the Bible several times a week as well.

From that time on until today, the Lord has given a burning heart to witness to my fellow Israelis, and He is using me to share the love of Yeshua in this end-time harvest in an amazing way, giving me opportunities that were never available before. I am honoured to be an end-time witness to my own people and to the Palestinians to bring His light to them, truth, healing, salvation and deliverance so that they can truly be set free. I am extremely privileged to be witnessing revival in Israel with many hungry hearts wanting to find out the truth about Messiah, Yeshua. I am continuing to spend hours each day with the Word of God, meditating on it so that I will be able to fulfill my call to teach and share the gospel as an evangelist. Yeshua is everything to me as He increases the fire of His holiness and consecration in my life, I pray that I will be able to preach His word with fire.

Please pray for me that the Lord will continue to anoint me with boldness, wisdom and power in His amazing grace to do His Work and through His Word break the powers of the devil over my people. It is my desire that He will be glorified and that I will hear the words, “well done, good and faithful servant” when I meet Him face to face.

In His love

Shlomo Nahum
